Project Description
Long Island University has begun massive expansions on its Downtown Brooklyn campus at 61 DeKalb Ave. Construction started on the future mixed-used building back in 2019 and will top out at 34 stories upon completion. The new structure will house LIU athletic facilities as well as academic and residential spaces. UBS has been providing cocoon protection on the building as perimeter protection during the concrete construction. Up to 575 LF of vertical netting has been installed around the building, with initial installation beginning on the 3rd floor and 4th floors, with final ties to be made on the 34th floor. Cocoon protection throughout construction will cover up to 400 ft in height. The UBS cocoon system will be installed on all building elevations, with allowances made for concrete walls, lifting platforms, and temporary personnel and material hoists.
